Types of Tree Pruning
The right pruning method depends on what the tree needs and why. Here are some of the most common approaches we use.
Canopy Lift
Removing lower limbs so people, cars or roof lines can clear underneath.
Canopy Thinning
Selectively removing branches through the crown so wind passes through instead of catching the whole canopy like a sail.
Height & Spread Reduction
Bringing an oversized tree back to a manageable size at the right points in the branch structure, not just lopping the top off.
Directional Pruning
Guiding new growth away from a specific target, a powerline, a roof or a fence, over successive prunes.
Boundary Line Pruning
Cutting back overhanging growth to the property line, with your neighbour kept in the loop.
QCAT Resolution Works
Where a tree dispute has resulted in a QCAT order or agreed resolution, we can carry out the required pruning in line with the specified scope of works.
Hollows and Habitat Boxes
Old hollows in a limb are usually where possums, gliders or birds are nesting. Removing them isn't always necessary just because a limb needs work. Where it's safe to do so, we prune around existing hollows instead of through them, and can install a fauna box as a replacement if a hollow-bearing limb genuinely has to come out. This isn't standard practice for most tree services in the area, ask about it when you get your quote if it matters to your property.
